The requirements for an electric vehicle charging station are different for each type. The most basic type of EV charging station is the Level 2 type, which requires a special connector. However, a Level 3 charging station is a more complicated process, requiring a special connector and requires a higher electrical output. Besides that, these stations require more space and are usually more expensive. There are a few other requirements for a level 3 charging point, which are also important to consider.

While there are no federal regulations, the State of Massachusetts requires a DC-level 1 charger and has adopted a specific standard for these types.

Another requirement for a level 2 charging station is that the charging station must be compatible with the current electrical grid. In order to install a level 2 charger, the power source should be a 240V AC adapter. The type A plugs must have multiple connectors, while DC-level 1 chargers must have one or more types of connectors. Similarly, the charging station should have a high-capacity battery.
